This means you have to raise the tailgate manually and use a stick of some kind to keep the tailgate open.     The tailgate struts failed when my wife opened the tailgate causing a bruise on her head. Skin was not broken. The struts failed slightly on the 27th and lowered the tail gate a few inches.
